Description

Islamic Terrorism is the first book in Stavros Lygeros' "duology," which could be titled "The Revenge of Islam," and it addresses the consequences of the American strategy for the "reformation" of the Middle East through military interventions.

The policy of "fluidity" in the Middle East has opened the box of Pandora. The first "wind" that has been unleashed is the expansion and generalization of Islamic terrorism, which has instilled fear and spread insecurity among Europeans. The second is the swelling of refugee and migrant flows, culminating in the tsunami of 2015-2016.

The two "winds" are very different from each other, but are experienced by Europe as parallel crises that, combined with the economic crisis, threaten to unravel the unification effort. The shipwreck of the neoconservative strategy forced the US to abandon the "imperial" dream and adapt to the emerging multipolar international system.

On one hand, this competition of major and regional powers, and on the other, the unacknowledged neo-Cold War stance of the West, have left space for the rapid development and expansion of the Islamic State. The author analyzes the incompatibility of Islamic fundamentalism with open Western societies, which both leftists and postmodern liberals bypass with blatant dogmatism.

The fact that Islamic fundamentalism acts as a breeding ground and recruitment pool for Islamic terrorism explains how young Muslims born in Europe are transformed into jihadists.
