    UPDATE: 10/25/2024
Over 8 years of use and they continue to perform strongly and seamlessly. Even today, they outperform most headphones on the market up to €500. The only exceptions might be the Sundara and the Hifiman Edition XS. For pads, I have settled on the HPAEC1540 from Shure and the Perforated Memory Foam Earpads - Round from Brainwavz. The Dekoni Audio Elite are unacceptably expensive and do not offer anything extra in terms of sound. If you add a comfort strap for the top of the head, you will have the ultimate headphones in terms of comfort as well. After so many that have passed through my ears, they have now become my daily headphones, and I wouldn't trade them for any other. I have paired them with the Topping DX3 Pro+ dac/amp and I am extremely satisfied with both sound quality and volume.

    INITIAL REVIEW:
I have had them for about ten days, and my feelings are mixed. Let's take a closer look.
In terms of construction, they seem quite good and sturdy, but don't expect anything special. Mainly plastic construction, with the metal bars standing out on the side supports of the headphones. The headband is comfortable and soft, while on the contrary, the ear pads are thin and quite tiring after about half an hour of continuous use. Unfortunately, you can't do much in this area. I tried various pads to improve their comfort with success, but... always at the expense of sound. Their sound changes dramatically for the worse with any pads I tried, other than the stock ones. Perhaps, the Shure pads (HPAEC1540) will satisfy you, as they change the sound very little from the stock and are clearly more comfortable. It seems that in terms of comfort, some compromise must be made. And I speak of compromise because their sound is really very good and I believe it's worth it for someone to compromise on this issue. We are talking about planar magnetic (orthodynamic) technology headphones, and those who know will know that this technology is currently the best possible that can reproduce sound with excellent fidelity and accuracy (I do not compare electrostatic headphones because that's another story). It is a technology found in headphones of much higher price categories, such as those from HiFi Man, Audeze, Oppo, or Kennerton. They deliver incredibly linear and clear sound, and their sound is detailed and precise. They are very close to flat sound, but not entirely. Their stereo image is excellent, while their soundstage is average to good, as one would expect from a studio monitor headphone. Their bass is just enough, maybe a bit more than needed, but always controlled and without overshadowing the other frequencies. The mids and highs are delivered excellently and are crystal clear. I don't think I can say much more on the sound front. They are simply planar!!!
A big shoutout to Fostex for managing to make this type of technology accessible to the general public while keeping costs as low as possible, without cutting corners on sound quality. For this reason, of course, there are two different cables included in the packaging that accompany the headphones and nothing else.
In closing, I would like to remind that these particular headphones require a lot of power to drive them. A dedicated low-impedance headphone amp with at least 1000mW at 32Ω is definitely needed at the output to drive them adequately. As you can understand, their use is not recommended for direct connection to smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. That’s why at the beginning of my review I mentioned mixed feelings. Nevertheless, I believe they are worth every euro, but under certain conditions. Those of you who have the appropriate setup for these specific headphones, I suggest you try them without hesitation. Happy listening!
