Attention, this cable is not Slim SATA, but plain SATA.
It can only connect 2.5'' drives to the computer. It does its job perfectly fine (I bought 2 and tested them on 2-3 hard drives).
If you want to get a cable to convert an internal DVD player to an external one (for example, if you removed it from your laptop to replace it with a second hard drive), then you will need to find a Slim Sata with 13 pins.

I don't know what's up with this one. I got the first one and whenever I wanted, it worked. I threw it away, and I thought it would be defective. After months, I got the same one again and same thing happened!! I threw it away too!

I didn't expect it to work with 3.5" but it doesn't work with 2.5" either, tested on usb 1.1, 3.1 gen1, 3.1 gen2. Get one with external power supply. (I didn't try SSD, only mechanical ones)
