"Heidi" by Johanna Spyri is one of the most beautiful classic children's books I have ever read. Knowing and having watched the TV series of the same name, I did not hesitate to read the book. In fact, I had doubts about whether the book would be better than the series, if the author's writing would be able to put me in the same beautiful atmosphere as the series, etc.

Our story tells us about the childhood years of an orphan girl, Heidi, who grows up in the Swiss Alps with her grandfather, a shepherd, spreading joy and optimism to those around her. The little protagonist meets and lives alongside people who will love her very much and take care of her, growing up with beautiful childhood memories next to animals and nature.

Johanna Spyri's writing took me to the snowy hills of Switzerland where simple and humble people live, following a quiet everyday life. I loved the characters of this book very much! People full of love, naturally taken from another era if one considers that the story takes place around 1970. Along with Heidi, her grandfather, Peter, Aunt Dete, Clara, Bridget, Peter's blind grandmother, Mr. Sesemann, Miss Rottenmeier, and Grandma Sesemann, I had a great time and met people who I felt were my own!

The book also speaks about the power of friendship and the "miracles" it can perform. I loved the strong bond between Heidi and Clara! Many times I was moved with them and many times I laughed at Peter's antics as he envied the two little girls, seeking exclusivity from Heidi.

The only point that disappointed me was the illustrations in the book, which often did not match the descriptions. For example, in the book, Heidi is presented as a small, petite girl, while in the illustrations, we see a young lady! However, this did not prevent me from creating my own images in my mind, influenced by the story, and "traveling" to the beautiful Alps with Heidi!

I highly recommend it to every child over the age of 11, as well as to every adult who wants to read the story that accompanied their childhood. Simple, beautiful, sweet, and touching, Heidi's story will inspire you, fill you with nostalgia, and convince you that... in the face of true friendship, anything is possible!
