    Standard Zoom

The visual they offer is very close to human eyesight and is often referred to as "normal". They provide a natural result with minimal distortions, while also having zoom capability. Their focal distance usually starts from 40-55mm in full frame, 25-40mm in crop frame, and 80-100mm in medium format.

    Tele Zoom

Telephoto lenses with zoom capability and optics that allow photography from a distance.

Lenses with a focal length of 80-135mm on full frame, 50-75mm on crop frame, and 120-180mm on medium format are ideal for portrait photography as they allow for photography from a moderate distance and flatter the subject's features.

Greater focal lengths are used for wildlife photography, sports events, and generally any subjects where a large distance is required.

    Wide Angle

Wide-angle lenses with optics that allow for fitting many elements within the frame with relatively little distortion. Their focal distance is usually 24-35mm for full-frame, 15-25mm for crop frame, and 50-70mm for medium format. They are commonly used in street photography but also in indoor spaces where there is limited distance from the subject. The perspective of wide-angle lenses makes things appear farther apart than they actually are.

  • Mount

The type of mount that the camera body must have in order for the lens to be fully functional when attached to it.

    2. Some lenses can be used with older mounts from the same manufacturer, sacrificing certain functions (e.g. autofocus), or even with mounts from other manufacturers using an adapter.

  • Item

Lenses with variable optical (zoom) that remain equally bright (same maximum aperture value) throughout the entire focal distance range they offer. Usually significantly more expensive than their variable aperture counterparts.

    Fixed Aperture Zoom

Lenses with variable optical (zoom) that remain equally bright (same maximum aperture value) throughout the entire focal distance range they offer. Usually significantly more expensive than their variable aperture counterparts.

  • Sensor Type

    Full Frame

Photographic lenses designed for use on full frame sensor cameras. A full frame lens can also be used on a crop frame sensor camera, but with its focal length adjusted according to the corresponding crop factor.

For example, a full frame lens with a focal length of 50mm (standard) on a camera body with a crop factor of 1.6 will function with a perspective as if it were an 80mm lens (telephoto).

The reverse does not work as the optics of a crop frame lens are not sufficient to cover an entire full frame sensor, resulting in the edges of the frame being black (severe vignetting).

  • Maximum Aperture (f)

Opening the diaphragm determines the amount of light received by the camera and affects the depth of field.
    2. The most open aperture of a lens is called the maximum. The more open the aperture (smaller f-number), the shallower the depth of field.

Description

Description

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM is a versatile zoom lens from Canon’s professional L-series, designed for EF-mount cameras. It covers a wide range of photographic needs, from wide-angle landscapes and travel photography to portraits and wildlife shots. Its advanced optical design ensures excellent sharpness across the entire frame, with consistent brightness throughout the zoom range. It features an advanced optical image stabilization system for steady handheld shots, even in low-light conditions. Its durable, weather-sealed construction protects against dust and moisture, ensuring reliable performance in demanding conditions.

Versatile 24–105mm Range with a Constant f/4 Aperture

Covering a focal length range of 24–105mm, the lens adapts easily to different types of photography, such as portraits, reportage, and landscapes. The constant maximum aperture of f/4 maintains consistent exposure throughout the zoom range without loss of brightness, while also providing reliable control over depth of field for both photography and video recording.

High-Resolution Optical Design & 10-Blade Aperture

The internal optical design comprises 17 elements in 12 groups, delivering clear images and edge-to-edge sharpness. The circular aperture with 10 blades helps create soft, natural background bokeh, while the front accepts screw-in 77mm filters for added creative control.

IS Image Stabilization for Handheld Shooting

The built-in Image Stabilisation (IS) mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake when shooting handheld. It allows you to take photos at slower shutter speeds in low-light environments without necessarily using a tripod, while keeping subjects perfectly sharp.

USM Motor & Durable L-Series Construction

The ultrasonic focusing mechanism USM (Ultra Sonic Motor) delivers lightning-fast, silent, and precise autofocus. As a member of Canon’s L series, it also features a body protected against dust and moisture, ensuring reliability in challenging weather conditions in the field.

Continuation of the 24-105 all-around lens. An interesting lens, while in some cases it lets in more light, in others it seems to have a yellow coating on the crystals compared to the old one. Compared to the old lens, the sky appears brighter at noon, but also more hazy.

However, it is more expensive. If the old lens was a 6.5/10, this one is a 9.5/10.

The 2.8 lets in more light, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Here in Greece, business opportunities have narrowed and I don't think there was a business that would benefit from such a large investment. CANON LOWER PRICES\

Sony is even worse (they want you to build their factories).

I also like the 35 L II and 24 L II lenses, but they are not suitable for easy transportation. However, I believe that generally, a top camera (5D III magic lantern) and a couple of lenses are enough. Make results, don't fall into the Gas photographic syndrome with the L series.

If you can afford it... I would go for the 24mm II lens. That's my opinion
