It needs to be left on for a sufficient amount of time to take effect (over 12 minutes), but it does indeed turn blonde hair silver. However, if the hair is not just blonde but also brown (meaning the blonde is only highlights), it is very likely to affect the brown color and turn it red. I used it for years but discovered that there are cheaper and better alternatives out there.
