The history of every sports team is intertwined with the vision, ideas, and personal journey of its founding members, their successors over time, the coaches, and the athletes who represented it in competitions, as well as the fans who became emotionally and socially connected to it and supported it in every competition.
And the story of the 'Athletic Union of Constantinople' is deeply linked to the lost homelands of Hellenism, the history of Byzantium, the sporting tradition of the City, and the concept of exile.
For the pioneers of the club's establishment, Emilios Ioannas and Kostas Dimopoulos, as well as for all the founding members who co-signed the charter in 1924, A.E.K. was more than just a new sports organization. It was the vision for preserving the heritage of the athletic and social tradition of Constantinople.
It was the effort to reorganize families in the refugee neighborhoods of Athens and gradually throughout Greece, who had lost their properties, their homeland, and their loved ones.
