Based on the collection Foreign Relations of the United States and unpublished material from the Department of State archive belonging to the microfilm collection of the Aegean Studies Foundation, this book analyzes the evolution of United States policy in geographical Macedonia and the Macedonian Issue during the 1940s.
The analysis focuses on the following themes: (a) the strategic, political, and economic interests of the United States, (b) the influence of anti-communist ideology on American decision-making centers and diplomatic missions, (c) the importance that Americans attributed to Greece and Greek Macedonia, and (d) the significance they placed on Yugoslavia and Yugoslav Macedonia after the Belgrade-Moscow rift.
The study aims to explain the axes, goals, and transformations of American policy. It examines Macedonia as a case study and connects it with American interests in the broader region. Finally, it explores the attitudes, influences, and ideas of American diplomats and officials.
