Description

The largest historical research ever conducted on Aris Velouchiotis. Wherever he went, I went. I had to see the places where he acted and listen to the people who knew him and lived with him. The fortunate thing is that in the early 1970s, when I started my research, I was able to meet most of those who adored or hated him, who fought against him or were his comrades.

Thus, many of his characteristics, behaviors, and authentic phrases were preserved, passed down from mouth to mouth, like a folk song. And I was lucky to have great guides in every place. It’s one thing to go searching and another to be shown around the first guerrilla hideout of Parnassus by captains Periklis and Nikiforos. It’s one thing to gaze at the mountain from afar and another for the black beret Katsantonis to show you the pathways of Chelidona. (Dionysis Charitopoulos)

It is well known that Dionysis Charitopoulos for many years collected and mainly cross-referenced anything related to Aris from a vast bibliography, from some not very accessible archives, from endless hours of interviews with hundreds of partisans, captains, black berets, officers, and villagers, and he followed his trail from mountain to mountain. As a result, this volume chronicles the mythical persona of Aris.

Aris Velouchiotis, who was considered a wanted partisan leader by the Italians and Germans. A war criminal to the British. A butcher and bandit according to the leadership of the Greek conservative party. A declared provocateur and traitor according to the leadership of the Communist Party of Greece.

Charitopoulos proves that he is the man who created the largest voluntary army in Greek history and a Free Greece within enslaved Europe. His previous editions (all sold out) have become one of the top-selling historical works.

The volume "Topos," in its new, revised edition by the author, comes to meet the demand of new readers who were unable to acquire this valuable work through previous editions.
