Patrice Hier argues that we all have a piece of childhood within us, yet many reject anything that could evoke their childhood years or adolescence. However, we should continuously cultivate the seeds of childhood.

If we stop deriving pleasure from play, we risk being cut off from new generations. Children's participation in the changing universe will depend on their ability to play with different representations, languages, cultures, and other ways of perceiving life.

The edition is accompanied by texts from Michèle Manson, Suzanne Lallemand, and Marie Le Fourn, which respectively highlight the historical, ethnological, and psychological dimensions of play.
