In what ways were the liberating pedagogy of Paulo Freire and the critical pedagogy that was established in the United States during the early 1980s received in Greece? What can they offer today? This book attempts to answer these questions.
The authors examine the methods of presentation and application of liberating and critical pedagogy in light of social, political, and ideological changes that were defined by corresponding confrontations and conflicts.
They propose their own vision for a liberating critical pedagogy, which is based on the study of the historical trajectories of liberating and critical pedagogy in our country and on their previous engagement with these two theoretical traditions.
In an era when the "iron heel" of the new order commercializes education, stripping it of its humanistic elements so that it increasingly operates like a factory and a prison where the imagination, creativity, and free thinking of educators and students are destroyed, and submissive workers of the present and future are shaped, this proposal deserves to be read and discussed.
