Description

Description

Critical Literacy represents the most contemporary philosophical-ideological approach to language and is followed by corresponding teaching proposals. Recently, it has not been adopted by the new Language Teaching Curriculum in Greece and Cyprus.

It developed within a broad theoretical framework – of literacy and multiliteracies combined with the development of cultural studies – from perspectives expressed by linguists and educators who state that linguistic phenomena are closely linked with social issues.

In the first part of the book, after a brief historical overview of language teaching, an attempt is made to define Literacy and the path that has been taken toward Critical Literacy, while also transitioning through various other Literacies.

The second part presents the approach, analysis, and teaching of the text within the context of the Pedagogy of Critical Literacy, and in the third part, teaching applications and proposals are presented.

The book is aimed at anyone who would like to learn or teach how one can see “behind the letters and beneath the words.”
