This short monograph presents the small church of the Savior Christ in Thessaloniki. Special emphasis is placed on the iconographic and stylistic analysis of the murals of the monument, which were photographed after their cleaning specifically for this edition, in order to highlight the theological and artistic value of this very important, albeit less known, Byzantine monument of the second most significant city of the Byzantine Empire. (From the presentation of the publication)
The revelation of the artistic wealth of the monument, despite its small dimensions, is owed to one of the paradoxical steps of history, giving substance to the excellent verse of Dionysios Solomos "Look over there, a deep chasm of the earthquake in the wall, and colorful flowers emerge and tremble in the air" (Free Besieged, Attempt B', 22) with the spiritually enriching, as well as luscious, frescoes of the Palaiologan Renaissance of the mid-14th century, which the author and responsible for the restoration of the monument more accurately identifies in the decade 1340-1350.
The analysis and interpretation of the extensive iconography of the Divine Liturgy acquires broader dimensions, as it connects with the secret thrill and the revealing light of Hesychasm, referencing prominent ecclesiastical writers and spiritual figures, such as Saint Gregory Palamas and Nicholas Cabasilas.
