It has been more than forty years since Richard Feynman taught the introductory physics courses that led to the creation of these three volumes entitled "The Feynman Lectures on Physics." In these forty years, our understanding of the physical world has changed greatly, yet the "Feynman Lectures" continue to stand the test of time.
Today, these lectures are as powerful as they were when they were first published; this is due to Feynman's unique physical insight as well as his teaching and pedagogical experience. The Lectures have become a subject of study around the world by physicists, both those just starting their careers and those already established in their fields. They have been translated into at least 15 languages and more than 1.5 million copies have been printed in English alone.
Probably no other set of books has had such an influence for so long. The current definitive edition of Feynman's physics lectures differs from all previous editions in two ways: it corrects all known errors to date and, additionally, includes a new fourth volume titled: "The Feynman Lectures on Physics Supplement: A Problem-Solving Supplement for the Feynman Lectures on Physics."
This supplement contains additional material from Feynman's courses: three lectures on problem-solving and one on inertial navigation, as well as solved problems and their answers, edited by Feynman's collaborators, Robert B. Leighton and Rochus Vogt, Kip S. Thorne.
