Description

Two girls –close friends, almost sisters– grow up in the Greek countryside, in a suffocating environment that trains them in the dominant model of morality, instilling fear and guilt in them.

Aristi, naturally restless, discovers the sources of fear through research and learning. She seeks truths about her position in a male-dominated society, the freedom of thought, politics, and love. Dialecti remains in the "shallow" and "sure" waters; timid and inactive, she takes small and hesitant steps in life each time.

The relationship between the two girls is tested when Dionysis Archondis enters between them, a vigorous man, the archetype of Bacchus. Since then, the two friends navigate life with two selves: the visible and the hidden.

Their lives go through trials, from the time of the National Schism to the beginning of the Civil War, as events shake Greece, which struggles to break free from its old feudal structures and urbanize.

A book about the quest for freedom, about fear and submission, about dreams and delusions. From the author of the novel As I Wanted to Live (Readers' Award EKABI 2010).
