Description

Description

It is generally accepted that astronomy was founded and flourished in ancient Greece. The ancient Greek astronomers, endowed with those qualities that constitute intellectual superiority, established the science of astronomy and outlined the guiding principles upon which it continues to operate.

The aim of this book is to present to the broad reading public, as well as to scholars of the history of astronomy, a summary of all the astronomical discoveries of the ancient Greeks (of which, of course, those that survived) from 6000 B.C. to 600 A.D., thereby emphasizing once again the greatness of the ancient Greek spirit.

The main source of this work was the collection of 30 astronomical treatises by ancient Greek astronomers that has survived (a regrettably very small number compared to the volume of astronomical work from ancient Greece that has been lost).
