A significant shift has been observed recently towards the study of the history of sciences, particularly that of mathematics. However, a thorough examination of the ancient text is a prerequisite for composing original studies rather than merely articles that present historiographical references.
For this reason, the effort of mathematician Evangelos Spandagos to publish unpublished ancient mathematical texts in Greece, along with translations into Modern Greek and his own comments, represents a substantial contribution to the advancement of the history of mathematics in our country.
Given that the proper way to research the history of sciences—especially mathematics—passes through studying the sources, this first edition in Greece of the complete text of "The Collection" by Pappus, with a translation into Modern Greek and comments by mathematician Evangelos Spandagos, serves as both an invitation and a challenge to the Greek mathematical community for the serious study of ancient Greek mathematics.
