Description

Fifteen years after its first edition, "Wise Child," the novel by Christos Homenidis that thrilled audiences and critics and became a reference point for the generation of the Post-Dictatorship, is being re-released by Patakis Publishers.

For the new edition, the text has been typeset from scratch. It also includes excerpts from the reviews, a preface by the author, a reproduction of the first handwritten page, while the cover features a work by Dimitris Papaiannou, a piece he created in 1990 while reading the manuscript of the novel.

"Today -fifteen years and seven books later- I am happy whenever I meet kids who talk to me about "Wise Child," as well as "scholars" who, while they had dismissed it in horror back then, now proudly admit that they miss it.

I am glad that it has been re-typeset and is being released in a flawless edition and I am anxious whether the text -of which I did not change a single comma- will prove to be resilient," writes among other things in his preface the author Christos Homenidis, concluding: "No matter how much water flows under the bridge, whatever I manage to write until I die, "Wise Child" will remain the ark of my childhood."

Reviews by our members

  • I read "The Wise Child" by Chomenidis with expectations, but it failed to win me over. It was not among the books I loved, nor among those I would like to return to. While reading, I felt a constant discomfort; perhaps this was the author's intention, but for me it did not work creatively. I did not find any point to hold on to, any crack that would allow me to form a positive impression. In the end, I was left with a sense of distance and disappointment.
