Censorship exists. Pockets of traditional forms of repression of artistic freedom, expression, or the press by public authorities still survive today.
However, what characterizes the modern context more than ever are the less visible, yet sometimes more drastic, versions of self-restraint of human speech, in the name of diverse purposes. The texts in the book address both of these versions, putting forth an interdisciplinary combination of experiential and analytical discourse, and substantiating the relevance and importance of the issue of censorship with reference to the very acts of artistic censorship in Greece, from 1945 to the present.
The reluctance of parts of Greek society and the state to familiarize or, at least, tolerate what they morally or politically abhor has kept the relevant public discourse on the margins for years now.
This volume, a bearer of testimonies and various research approaches, seeks to overturn this image and to serve as a constant challenge for reflection.
