Atheism and religious belief are two of the fundamental questions posed by the work of Barion, but it is also, perhaps, the most insoluble dilemma of Sartre that preoccupied him from the very beginnings of his artistic and intellectual contribution.

His profound influence from Nietzsche urged him to reject universalism and procreation, leading him to connect existentialism and anti-humanism, elements that are either explicitly mentioned or implied in this work, but which also contend with their opposites: love for fellow humans, the social whole, and God.

It is well known that the author always had an eccentric relationship with God, based on negativity and skepticism. This work makes us rethink his personal philosophy regarding existence and the divine, which perhaps does not ultimately reject faith and respect for religious values, but rather endorses them by highlighting the strength of the individual when it stems from genuine love, trust, and dedication to their neighbors, certain values, or situations.
