The school book "Greek Art and Archaeology," written by the Greek expert Dimitris Plantzos and published by Kapoun Editions in 2011, was chosen by the American publishers Lockwood Press based in Atlanta as their first venture into the field of classical archaeology.

Translated by the British archaeologist Nicola Wardle, this book has recently appeared and has been revised and expanded by its author. The English edition is distributed in Greece and the rest of Europe by Kapoun Editions, which redesigned the Greek-language edition.

In the five years since its first publication, the book has established itself as the essential school manual for teaching classical art and archaeology, offered by most Greek university faculties where the subject is taught.

The book covers Greek archaeology from the collapse of the Mycenaean palaces to the subjugation of the last Hellenistic kingdoms to Rome. The author studies Greek art through the material imprint and in relation to its cultural and social context.

The target audience for the book includes archaeology and art students, as well as anyone interested in Greek art and culture. Through compact and systematic coverage of the main categories of classical monuments, the reader becomes a witness to the ancient Greek world during the most impressive period of its history, the 1st millennium B.C.

Architecture and urbanism, sculpture, painting, ceramics, metallurgy, jewelry-making, and numismatics are some of the fields covered. This is the first history of ancient Greek art that demonstrates such chronological and interdisciplinary depth published in Greece in nearly a century, and it is now the first to be undertaken by a foreign publisher.
