Witches were never ugly, old, and wicked. On the contrary, they were the young, beautiful, and benevolent women who, out of necessity, turned to the knowledge of ancient wisdom to address the everyday health problems of their loved ones as well as those who sought their help to relieve their suffering.
However, for this beneficial contribution, they were relentlessly persecuted by the clergy. Thousands of witches were arrested, tortured, and executed in horrific ways. And the worst part is that their memory continues to be tarnished by Christian propaganda, which is perpetuated today through "innocent" children's fairy tales.
