Description & Specifications

"Excerpts from the Book of the Ocean" is a novel that magically illuminates the Mediterranean Sea, its history, and primarily, its archetypal myths.

One night, after a powerful storm, on a small island in the Aegean, an unknown person narrates excerpts from a book that was never written. He speaks of a sailboat that departed from Syros in the last summer of the 19th century, destined for Constantinople.

Upon this, an old Eastern storyteller recounts his own myths about the Archipelago to his travel companions every night: stories framed by mythical beings from folk tradition, dragons, dwarfs, spirits, vampires, fates, in historical places as well as in the palaces of the underworld, in haunted windmills, in dry wells, in olive groves with fairies.

These narratives dip their hands into two basins, intertwining paganism and the sacred tales of the Mediterranean with the history and blending of its cultures. A novel for the travelers and shipwrecked souls of the ocean of History, a metaphor at sea for existential loneliness.

The flag of this ship is the nostalgia for the eternally lost enchantment of fairy tales, as well as an elegy for the dryness of modern times.
