Hartmann Atrauman Ag dressings contain silver and are made from hydrophobic knitted polyamide tulle, with fibres coated in elemental silver. On contact with the wound, silver ions act against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, while the antimicrobial effect lasts for at least 7 days. The dressings are permeable to wound exudate and do not adhere to the wound, allowing for painless removal.
The dressings are impregnated with a neutral ointment containing no active ingredients, petroleum jelly or other paraffins. The ointment contains a mixture of esters derived from natural plant fatty acids, bound as diglycerides and triglycerides, as well as Macrogol 2000. They are used for acute and chronic superficial wounds, including as an adjunct in the care of wounds with increased microbial colonisation or to help prevent infection during wound treatment.
