Description

Description

Since the time of the expression of Simonides of Ceos as preserved by Plutarch, that painting is silent poetry and poetry is speaking image (“Simonides calls painting silent poetry, and poetry speaking painting”), various practices of theoretical and critical discourse (philosophical, aesthetic, literary, and visual content), as well as the artistic practices of literature and painting themselves, signify references (to the world of human experience of Time) and processes of artistic formation, based on which the idioms of literature and painting can converge and be connected.

This approach is directed towards the horizon of interpretative exploration of the above - inter-artistic - formation, through the prism of the conceptual, aesthetic, and artistic category of (re)presentation.

Thus, four examples with ongoing relevance and influence throughout the history of the Western cultural scene are systematically highlighted and analyzed here, each of which defines a specific field for the convergence and connection of literature and painting: the example of similarity, the example of imitation, the example of the absolute, and the example of presence.
