When the property tax was introduced in Karagiozis' cabin and a processing tax on the egg laid by a hen they had, because Aglaia was frying it with salt and pepper, the Karagiozis family found themselves homeless in the Exarchia kingdom.
In this peculiar state within a state, everyone chose their role, and they began to be visited by heroes from the wider troupe, including Alexander the Great and the beautiful Helen. A key figure is Morfonios, who became prime minister, and his nose grows in proportion to the lies he tells.
One day, Chancellor Merkel will visit them there. And then:
- ALEXANDER: I am Alexander the Macedonian.
- ANGELA: I am the Chancellor of Germany.
KARAGIOZIS: (to Aglaia). It will be a hell of a show, I saw it in my dream. (To the little snake, Diamantis, who sneaked under the crate). Come out, cursed snake, the music has started...
Exarchia resembles a Karagiozis scene. They eat, drink, and sleep hungry. There are fights from Velikekas and from Barba-Giorgos. It’s a wreck every day in the hut. All the tribes of the world. Finesse and coarseness. Laziness and industriousness. A situation of common sense.
Where will it go? At some point, the Chancellor will pass by there with our Morfonios.
