I have been working for a long time on "The Thrush" by G. Seferis. It is a difficult, multidimensional poem, both broken and internally united many times. I struggled more than ever in my attempts to approach literary texts, and that is due to its structure.
I realized better than ever that painting is first and foremost composition. It is the composition that conveys a state and "depicts" an object. The relationships between the painting elements and, ultimately, the individual parts of a form create the conditions for painting, which is the artistic rendering of life.
Any other attempt at painting that is based on naturalistic conditions is doomed to fail. It does not record life but rather constitutes a miserable and poor hint of life, a weak symbolism of it. In this case, the artwork can at best become a signifier with conceptual references to life and reality, but not a presence of life. Therefore, it is not painting, that is, the writing of life.
