Dimitris Bayraktaris was a remarkable personality. A bold and methodical man, just and tough, rough yet sensitive, a patriot and a religious man, a soldier and a policeman, a person of duty. He was born in 1833 and died in 1904.

The tips of shoes and the hairstyles of rascals and rogues were cut off. Fearsome figures were transformed into innocent lambs. The unemployed were forced to work. The thieves were sent on a one-way journey. The hashish dens were closed, and the beggars disappeared. In the taverns, they drank wine and did not shed blood.
