The Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai has been characterized by expert scholars as the most important monastery in the world, while undoubtedly in the consciousness of Orthodox Christians, it has been and remains the most revered and desired pilgrimage site after the Holy Lands.
Over the course of approximately 15 centuries of uninterrupted existence, the Monastery, despite the great difficulties it faced amidst non-believers and foreigners, not only succeeded in preserving the integrity of Orthodoxy and nourishing the Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate with prominent figures of Asceticism but also received special privileges from both Muhammad and later from popes and rulers of the East and West.
It thus emerged as a significant spiritual center of Hellenism, making remarkable contributions to monasticism, Orthodoxy, the Church, and our Nation.
