Description

Description

The beginning of this collective work, complex in its content, is realized with brief archaeological observations from the transition of the ancient temple to the domestic churches (domus ecclesiae), to the early Christian basilica, and to the cathedral of the medieval, Renaissance, and later periods. The historical, artistic, and ecclesiastical description of certain monastic centers in Italy, such as Saint Anselm in Rome, Saint Francis in Assisi, Saint John in Parma, Montserrat in Spain, and others, highlights the spiritual activity of the Christian West to the Greek-speaking readership.
The Byzantine presence and Greek culture in the Italian peninsula, such as in Calabria and Sicily, are briefly and informatively described for the Greek philomath reader, with a brief reference to churches, monasteries, and the painted decoration with the well-known mosaics of the Sicilian monuments of the 12th century.
But also the information about international conferences, historical, patrological, mariological, archaeological, and other topics, as well as exhibitions of manuscripts, Byzantine icons, and other sacred objects, constitute valuable news for the specialist researcher of the individual scientific subjects of non-Christian literature.
Finally, the hagiological, historical, and iconographic information about some saints of the Church, such as the Holy Unmercenaries and Saint Eugenia, add a special tone to this work, which is a collection of short writings, reprinted from the newspaper "Ecclesiastical Truth" of the Church of Greece by honorary professor Konstantinos P. Charalampidis.
