Description

Description

This edition was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name organized by the Foundation for Greek Culture at the exhibition space of the Eynard Mansion (December 12, 2017 - March 3, 2018).

This volume collects most of the approximately 400 exhibits (oils, drawings, sculptures, manuscripts, and photographs). The paintings and sculptures are primarily portraits created by significant Greek artists of the 20th century.

Overall, as N. P. Paisios writes in his epilogue, it represents a "cryptic autobiography," as it preserves the faces and influences that Fotopoulos encountered throughout his long and fruitful journey.

The selection of figures is anything but random, as can be seen from the way Dionysis Fotopoulos himself introduces the works: "They are the friends, they are those faces of the people you met or dreamed of meeting, their looks that said so much, they are the ideas that stir the mind and push one towards the quest for a new perspective on life and art, they are the enlightenment, the struggles for a better world, for a better homeland, for freedom, for crazier dreams."
