The three-act drama "The Sound of the Bell" is the most significant theatrical work by Giannis Skarimbas (1893-1984) and an unknown masterpiece of modern Greek dramaturgy.

Its judicial adventure in 1943 and its rejection by the State theaters contribute today to the myth of a scenic ghost, an "invisible troupe" coming from Chalkida.

The official performance in 1969 by the G. Emirza troupe at the Experimental Theater of M. Rialdi was praised by important figures in the Arts. However, it remains, even as a title, an unrecorded and unknown work.

In terms of plot form, the work can be placed alongside the thematically similar works of Henrik Ibsen, while it exhibits exceptional resilience when compared to the works of Luigi Pirandello and Somerset Maugham.

Its greatest virtue, however, and the regulator of the plot is its language, which boldly balances, obeying the aesthetic measures of other times, above the grammatical and significant stereotypes of post-war urban planning.
