Description

Who killed Sir Magnus Pike? On that August evening, when editor Susan Ryland began reading the manuscript of a detective novel featuring detective Atticus Pund, she could not have suspected that she would have to write the ending herself...

The author Alan Conway was the biggest name at the publishing house, and everyone was relying on the success of his new book. The ninth case of the famous detective concerned the suspicious death of a housekeeper and the murder of her wealthy employer in a British county in 1955.

As she approached the final chapter, Susan discovered that the last pages were missing. What was the point of reading a detective novel that didn't reveal the solution to the mystery? she wondered, tossing the manuscript aside. The answer came from the voice on the radio. The author of the book had been found dead. The handwritten suicide note was already on her editor Charles Clover's desk.

From that moment on, Susan knew she would transition from reader to detective...

Quite interesting, with originality in the dual storyline and a good twist at the end! However, the way it presented the information didn't work well. It's worth reading, but I don't think it reaches the level of Christie, whom I consider an inspiration for this particular one!

What's all the hype about, honestly I don't understand! The book is okay to read comfortably, but that's about it! I even read that it's better than A. Christie. Maybe it's a mediocre copy! Personally, I found that it "dragged" while the editor was carrying out detective duties, and I lost interest until the end, which felt like falling asleep during a movie and waking up at the end in an episode of Poirot. :(

Excellent book, by far the best I have read in the crime genre. If you like this type, get it with your eyes closed!

By far the best mystery book I have ever read. Horowitz proves his intelligence by setting the bar very high in books of this genre. The only downside to such books is that once you read them, all the next ones will seem tasteless and colorless to you!
