There are certain points in the modern history of Greece that raise hard questions. With 70% of its pre-war Jewish population exterminated in the Nazi camps, the country ranks among the top positions in this tragic comparison, even surpassing the Reich itself.

Are the foreign invaders solely to blame for this record? At the same time, during the last World War, a historical minority, the Muslim Chams of Epirus, were "cleansed" in the most absolute manner.

These issues are not propaganda games—anti-Hellenic or pro-Hellenic. They are historical matters of crucial and multifaceted interest. Any avoidance of answers or research into what happened and how it happened critically undermines our historical and political education and opens the door for new "unexpected" outbursts of passions and crimes.

Woe to the nations and societies that believe they stand above and beyond history and that they are "by definition" sinless.
