This edition of the Oresteia is not a scholarly one: neither the ancient text is included nor does it contain comments. It is a publication of the translation that, following the original text with unwavering fidelity, to which the person undertaking it returned repeatedly and in detail (1994-2004), had from the beginning as its sole purpose the most complete possible acquisition and rendering of the meaning through the medium that is also that of the Aeschylean work itself: poetry; and because the Oresteia is primarily a theatrical work, the aim was also to make the translation primarily theatrical.
Poetry and theater, therefore, in an undivided whole, so that this ancient work (written and performed 2,463 years ago) can be referenced and heard, but also read today, as it deserves: conveyed precisely with the greatest possible fullness of its content and form to the viewer and reader of the early 21st century.
