Description

Nirvanas, Pavlos (1866 - 1937). Literary pseudonym of Petros Apostolidis. He was born in Mariupol, Russia. He studied Medicine in Athens and enlisted in the Royal Navy as a junior doctor in 1890. He retired in 1922 as Chief Physician.

After his retirement, he dedicated himself exclusively to journalism and writing. His first appearance was with the poetry collection "Daphne," followed by articles in newspapers (Astu, Akropolis, Estia) and texts in various literary magazines (Techni, Panathinaia, Nea Estia, Asmodaios, etc.).

His body of work is very rich and includes all types of writing (chronicles, studies, critical essays, short stories, novels, popular scientific works, translations). His language evolved from formal Greek to demotic in his later works.

In 1928, he became a member of the Academy of Athens. His position allowed him to assist in promoting writers such as Kontylakis, Xenopoulos, and Spyros Melas. He died in Marousi.
