Personal letters, if they possess only private significance, are not meant to be published by the author themselves. However, in the case of my letters from London to George Seferis - may I be forgiven a certain vanity - it was my desire for the Greek public to get to know an unknown aspect of our struggle for international recognition.
I believe they now hold historical significance. They concern a "heroic exit" of Greek letters, and particularly of modern Greek poetry, from the ghetto of academic studies and folklore, where they remained until 1944.
My letters describe step by step, like a diary, the movements of myself and others, and the discussions behind the scenes with the most important poets and critics, the magazines and personalities of London at that time.
