Lenz behaves more like an iconoclast towards the traditional origin of theater, wanting everything to be done in a Shakespearian manner.
Since I am compelled to refer to this both gifted and strange person, perhaps this is the place to tentatively say something about him. I first met him towards the end of my stay in Strasbourg. We saw each other rarely; his circle was not mine, but we sought opportunities to meet, and our conversations were pleasant because, as contemporaneous youths, we shared the same sentiments.
