On the distant planet Solaria, the first crime occurred after two hundred years. The Solarians are Space beings with a culture based on robots instead of slaves, while the Earthlings have buried themselves underground, covering their cities from all sides and are terrified of everything outside their steel caves.
In this civilization lives Ilaya Bailey, an Earthling police officer, whose job is to find the murderer and conduct investigations on behalf of his government. With Bailey's arrival in Solaria, a lengthy search process begins, facing the fears and other peculiarities of the Solarians.
