Description

Description

Aristotle, one of the greatest Greek philosophers, researchers, and thinkers, was born in Stagira of Chalkidiki to the physician Nicomachus and Phestida in 385 B.C. He followed the oracle of the Delphi oracle - of the Pythian god who advised him to philosophize in Athens - studied philosophy under Plato in Athens, and taught at the Academy (367-384 B.C.).

In 348 B.C., after the death of Plato, he went with Xenocrates to Assos in Asia Minor and taught philosophy and scientific subjects to a wide audience. In 345 B.C., perhaps after the invitation of Theophrastus, he settled in Mytilene and remained there teaching until 342 B.C., when Philip entrusted him with the education of the then thirteen-year-old Alexander.

In 336 B.C., after the death of Philip, he returned to Athens and in 335 B.C., founded the "Lyceum" between Lycabettus and Ilissus, which was also called "Peripatetic" due to the many colonnades of the building. In 323 B.C., after the death of Alexander the Great, he withdrew to Chalkis, his mother's homeland, where he died from a stomach ailment in 322 B.C.

Most of Aristotle's works have been lost. Those that have survived are distinguished into logical, natural, biological, psychological, metaphysical, ethical, political, and technological problems. The present work of Aristotle, Metaphysics, belongs to the so-called auditory or secret works of the Philosopher.
