The heroine of the work Princess lives in the American South, married to the elderly Jaym, who owns a general store managed by his young wife.

In their small town, the young Val arrives, whom Princess hires as a clerk in the store. The passionate love between the two young people ends tragically when Val-Orpheus attempts to take Princess-Eurydice with him, leading to her being killed by Jaym-Pluto, keeping her forever in the underworld of their small town.
