On February 7, 1970, the hundredth anniversary of Alfred Adler's birth was celebrated. After this date, we are perhaps better equipped than when Adler lived to understand and evaluate his significance in the history of psychology.
Robert Watson, in his dissertation on the history of psychology, said that "Alfred Adler anticipated the psychological disposition of his time by emphasizing the influence of social factors... ego functions... the individual unity of each person... (and) a moral perspective."
From psychiatric circles, we find statements such as that of Erwin Stengel, who said: "Much is owed to Alfred Adler for what he foresaw in social psychiatry."
