Description

Greece, with delay and anxiety, managed to embrace another significant appointment with History, the establishment of the euro. Just as in the past, also with anxiety, it managed to follow the great historical transformations of Modernity: the formation of the National State, the adoption of liberal institutions and universal suffrage, industrialization, and unionism, the integration into the European Economic Community.

However, it did not have time to rejoice in its success, as it found itself, along with all of Europe, in the vortex of the international crisis centered on the Iraq war. One by one, the pieces that shaped the balances after World War II have been dismantled. The collapse of the Soviet Union brought an end to bipolarity. The militaristic response of Bush's America to the terrorist attack in New York caused the "schism of the West." The multiplication of protectorates reversed the anti-colonial course.

A dark and ominous long-term period has opened up for the entire world. American neoconservatism aspires to define the new balances of the 21st century all by itself. The relationship with the USA has now become the touchstone of the identity of the European Union. Will it seek to promote its own perception of globalization, or will it accept the world that American power is preparing? Will it proceed with Political Union to become a strong shareholder in a multipolar world, or will it evolve into a subordinate partner of a new Holy Alliance?

Will the spectacular mobilization of citizens breathe new life into Politics? Will it give rise to a common European patriotism? Around these questions, all the major political movements in Greece, Europe, and the world will be reconstituted. The answers to these questions will shape the new distinction between Progress - Conservatism, Left - Right in the 21st century.
