Description

The 22 articles in this edition were written directly in English while Marx was working as a professional journalist, the official correspondent for the New-York Daily Tribune, a widely circulated American daily newspaper. These texts introduce us to Marx's way of thinking, the atmosphere of his time, as well as to his critically important theoretical insights, which he would systematically develop in his later work.

They transport us to the 1850s, to a world living in the aftershock of the capitalist crisis of 1847 and the revolutions that shook Europe in 1848. For Marx himself, it is the period between the Communist Manifesto and the founding of the First International. At the same time, it coincides with the period of gathering material for the writing of Capital, when Marx was permanently based in London and studying political economy in depth.

The articles in the book have been grouped into three categories: geopolitical developments, as we are currently living in a period of similarly dramatic rearrangements of the global scene, the condition of the working class, since even today we observe the compression of wages and the flattening of labor rights, and finally, the economy, as the great capitalist crisis of 2007-2008 has fundamentally altered the lives of people both in Greece and globally.
