My name is Sphinx and I am very beautiful. Whenever I see myself in the mirror, I get excited. I have all those things that you humans dream of. But you don’t have them and you will never have them. I have the body of a lion. An eagle gave me my wings and my tail is serpentine. My eyes are big and my long hair reaches my shoulders.

I am not alone. Our family is large and consists only of women. Sphinxes. Many Sphinxes. They say we are monsters. Lies! Okay, I admit that in the old days some of us occasionally ate a human. That’s how we got our bad reputation. But we are not all the same. Most of us live a quiet life inside museums.

We really like riddles, puzzles, and especially enigmas. If I want, I walk, and if I get tired, I fly. I have lion’s legs and eagle’s wings, and I dare say straight out: my tail is serpentine!

Many Sphinxes sleep underground. They wait for archaeologists to wake them up. Some live inside museums. I am one of them. My name is Naxia and I live in Delphi. My origin is from Naxos. Many years ago, the inhabitants of Naxos gifted me to the Oracle of Delphi.
