This edition honors the magical world of fairy tales, celebrating the remarkable meeting of a writer and an artist of worldwide recognition: Charles Perrault and Gustave Doré.
This work – which includes all of Perrault's Fairy Tales, first published in 1697 during the reign of Louis XIV, and about eighty illustrations by Doré from 1862 – takes us back to the delightful thrills of childhood with Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty of the Woods, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, The Donkey Skin, The Fingerling, The Bluebeard and other stories...
Inspired by the Fairy Tales of 1862, preserved in the Rare Books Collection of the Library, this edition offers readers of all ages the timeless and universal tales of Perrault, a moralist of the 17th century, the Grand Century of France, as interpreted visually by Doré two centuries later, with his decorative engravings.
The edition of the fairy tales, wonderfully and creatively translated by Despoina Kampani-Detzortzi, is enriched with a preface by Marc Fumaroli, academic and professor at the Collège de France, and an introduction by Jean-Marc Chatelain, director of the Rare Books Collection of the National Library of France.
