The ancient Greeks blessed and praised Dionysus for the great gift he had given them, the vine, and its unparalleled product, wine.

Today, I will talk about the vine and wine, but purely from an iconographic perspective. I will focus specifically on representations exclusively taken from ancient Greek pottery, as here the depiction of wine and the vine in general is exceptionally rich and presents unique interest.

These are observations that can be easily explained. Most shapes of vessels from the ancient Greek world are directly related to wine in terms of their use, as their names often indicate (e.g., oenoche).
