At the end of the 19th century. Three teenagers, Melchior, Moritz, and Wendla, find themselves trapped in the conservatism of their time: school performance, distant parents, and the all-powerful religion compress their vital space and repress their sexual urges.
Armed with their adolescent impulsiveness, the three young people will revolt against the world in which they were born and will face death, giving Wedekind the opportunity to compose an anthem of the will to live.
The Awakening of Spring is one of the most important theatrical works of the transitional period from the 19th to the 20th century. It combines lyricism and realism, theatricality and cinematic sequences of scenes.
Although it was periodically fought against and banned, it is now considered a precursor to expressionism and is recognized as a landmark reference for various trends in contemporary dramaturgy.
