After the fall and destruction of Troy, Odysseus, the cunning king of Ithaca, set sail with his ships and companions for the journey home. However, Poseidon, the god of the sea, angry because Odysseus blinded his Cyclops son, Polyphemus, punished him to wander for a whole ten years in unknown lands, dangerous islands, and tempestuous seas.

Man-eaters and gigantic monsters stood in his way. Finally, with his cleverness, perseverance, indomitable will, and superhuman efforts, he managed to return to Ithaca. The endless adventures and titanic struggle he faced are described by the great poet of antiquity, Homer, in his marvelous work, the Odyssey.
