The Cypriot issue is a paradox. It has not been resolved to this day, while the forms of peaceful resolution have been obvious, at least since 1968.
This book examines this Cypriot peculiarity from four perspectives. First, it explores the historical trajectory of the problem from 1948 onwards, with the rationale that the more light there is concerning the mistakes and lost opportunities, the clearer the perimeter of peaceful and viable solutions will become.
Second, it emphasizes nationalism and the denial of the "Other," whose role has been crucial in the conflict and the lack of resolution. The narratives that dominate in Greece and Cyprus do not contribute to overcoming the confrontation; on the contrary, they entrench it.
Third, it thoroughly investigates the role of Britain, Turkey, the USA, and of course Greece.
Fourth, it identifies the most significant barriers to resolution and, finally, seeks a peaceful viable solution. The concluding observation of the study is that, in order to find a viable solution, it must be taken into account that the role of endogenous factors, such as ethnic conflict, has been more decisive than that of the foreign factor.
